This Blue Oyster Mushroom Plate Culture strain has deep gray-blue caps with thick, meaty fruiting bodies possessing a deep umami flavor. This strain is Redwood Mushroom Supply’s mycologist’s personal favorite for cooking. The fruits lend themselves well to smoky marinades and seasonings as a meat replacement in a wide range of dishes. The Oyster Mushroom, with its distinctive clusters of fan-shaped caps, thrives on the sides of dead or dying hardwood trees.

  • Blue Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) plate culture
  • 100 mm x 15 mm petri dish with malt extract agar
  • Easy to grow, fast-colonizing & high yielding strain
  • Produces large clusters of fruit bodies with grey-blue caps
  • Rich umami flavor makes this an excellent culinary choice
  • Prefers Fast-Fruiting/Master’s Mix or straw

Blue Oyster produces multiple flushes and thrives in cooler environments. They perform best when side-fruited, as this mimics their natural growing conditions on the sides of trees. They are known for their aggressive colonization and robust mycelium, making them a resilient and high-yielding strain. When growing this strain of Blue Oyster, you can expect dense clusters yielding around 1-2 lbs of fruits per 5 lb block.
